Novelist, Short Story & Travel Writer
Heroes Exhibition at Lichfield Literature Festival, 1-4 March 2017
Working as the Illustrator in Residence at Lichfield Festival I was asked to add to the ‘Heroes’ series of illustrated portraits with a number of new pieces inspired by literary/heroes for the Literature Festival.
This portrait of Mary Shelley (1797-1851) references the painted portrait by Richard Rothwell and pays homage to elements of her best known novel Frankenstein. In her introduction to the 1831 edition of Frankenstein notes that some unspecified “experiments of Dr. Darwin” were part of the evening discussion topics leading up to her inspiration and creation of her novel.
This portrait is available as a A3 signed giclée print, with a limited edition of 25. Find out more about the festival and view work in progress images on the Heroes Exhibition Blog.
