Illustrated portrait brand identity for Berlin based street food caterers Waffeltanten - the Waffle Aunts.
Founders Klaudia and Jagoda are in actual fact sisters but affectionately call themselves the Waffle Aunts (Waffeltanten). Bringing sweet waffles to Berlin and beyond, you’ll find strictly no savoury waffles here. Keeping the family feel, the Waffle Aunts colour palette was inspired by some fabulous 1960’s/70’s fabric owned by their grandmother - rich warm browns and a sticky sweet orange.
Waffeltanten’s eye catching portraits were created in Illustrator using vectors with versions created for both small and large scale use. Applied across print and digital Waffeltanten’s faces are featured across business cards, flyers, social, website and can be seen travelling up and down Germany on the side of their waffle truck. Now that’s what you call a sweet ride.
Keeping the family feels and giving the Waffle Aunts brand ID a personal touch was key. From suppliers to businesses to the end customers; the Waffle Aunts wanted to present confidence in their product and service by boldly displaying their faces as part of their brand ID.
The first outing of Waffeltanten’s portraits was a great success with customers recognising their faces and engaging in dialogue.
‘Yesterday we got so many compliments on the logo. It was so funny as people were looking at the logo and then at us ... and said surprisingly “ej, it’s you on the logo!”’
Waffeltanten were pleased with the result.
Blog post coming soon - Follow the process through work in progress images of the photography, creation and final application, through to the sisters first outing as the Waffeltanten.
